The 'Just Checking' website is now live!
Cervical, breast and bowel screening is important for all people, but we know that people with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders are not screened as often as they should be. NDP has partnered with Family Planning NSW to roll out the Just Checking website on cervical, breast and bowel cancer screening.
The Just Checking website offers a range of free resources developed for people with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders. There are also resources specifically for support workers, parents and carers to build their confidence in supporting people to access cancer screening services.
What resources are available?
The website provides free resources such as:
- easy English page for people with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders;
- videos featuring people with intellectual disability discussing their real life cancer screening experiences;
- social stories explaining the screening processes, along with a glossary of words and their meanings;
- tool to assist disability support workers in discussing cancer screening;
- online learning program to improve disability support workers’ knowledge, skills and confidence to support a person access cancer screening services.
Stay tuned for more updates about cancer screening in 2019!
